C.) Nonmembers information
Congratulations on your engagement to be married. The following is provided to give you some general information about what is required in the Archdiocese, and what is required to be married at Incarnation Church.
1.) Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis
i.) The policy throughout the whole Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is that couples wishing to get married should be registered members of a parish for at least one year prior to the wedding date. This encourages a couple to begin practicing their faith at their parish before they are married.
ii.) If you or your fiancé are not members of a parish yet, it may be possible to be married in either of your parent’s parishes. This direct family tie to a parish, where your family is living out their faith, is on way to meet the one-year membership requirement.
2.) Church of the Incarnation - Visitor Wedding possibility
i.) Incarnation Church is a beautiful setting for the sacrament of marriage. However, church is not only about building, it is about people. It is people who formed the parish in 1909, and it is people who built this remarkable edifice in 1917. It is people who have provided fund, care, maintenance and nurturing to sustain the parish and its landmark building of South Minneapolis. History has proven that the presence and participation of people is the driving factor that supports our vibrant, worshipping community. Thousand of people, hundreds of priests and religious, have sacrificed and devoted their time, talent and treasure to continually provide for the sacraments and education, and they continue to do so.
ii.) The church schedule and building is designed for the Incarnation Community, and the Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Community. You have requested to hold your wedding here without the key ingredient of participation and presence. Visitor weddings are an exception, and the staff uses their discretion in accepting registrations and will adjust any or all preparations as they see fit.
iii.) The sacrament of Marriage is prepared for couples connected to the Incarnation community. Fr. Monaghan, Pastor presides at all weddings. He does not meet with any couples regarding their weddings, nor do staff members beyond normal preparations. We enjoy connecting with couples during worship, and through the service and ministries they contribute within the community.
iv.) You need to agree to work with these conditions before committing to a wedding at Incarnation Church.
v.) Please complete and return to the parish office:
Why are you choosing not to married at your parent’s parish church?
